Time for a chechup at your local dentist in Commercial street
The check up is our regular chance to make sure that your teeth are in perfect shape, and hopefully prevent any major problems before they occur.
At your initial dental check up you’ll meet your dentist and be able to discuss any questions and treatment options you have in mind. We’ll review your medical history and discuss any issues that may affect your treatment.
After this, your dentist will carry out a thorough examination of your mouth checking all of your teeth and gums. We use the very latest dental technology including intra-oral cameras and digital x-rays so you can see exactly what the dentist sees, and ask any questions you may have. We aim to make this experience as interactive and informative as possible.
Fillings are a wonderfully effective way to repair teeth that have been damaged, either due to injury or decay.
We use a number of different kinds of fillings, such as: composite (white) fillings, amalgam (silver) fillings, and porcelain fillings. During your visit, we’ll discuss the different types with you, and help you choose the one that suits you best.
Composite (white) fillings are made from natural tooth coloured resins that are more aesthetically pleasing and can be matched to the same colour as natural teeth.
Amalgam (silver) fillings are made from an amalgamation of different metals and are silver in appearance. Amalgam fillings are resistant to wear; however, due to their colour they are more noticeable than composite fillings and are not usually used in very visible areas, such as front teeth.
Porcelain fillings are called inlays or onlays and are made by a technician in a dental laboratory and then bonded to the tooth. They can be matched to the colour of the tooth, resist staining, and are extremely durable.
Finally, your dentist will discuss with you the dental treatment options available and provide you with a suggested dental treatment plan.

When should my child start visiting a dentist?
Following the guidance of the British Dental Society dental check-up before their first birthday. We are also on hand for dietary advice (especially on the intake of sugars) and proper oral care recommendations.
The journey to a life of healthy teeth and gums starts even before your child requires dental care. The relationship between your child and their dentist is just as important as their level of skill and expertise. Discuss your own dental visits with your child to dispel the myths and stereotypical “fears” associated with dentistry. If they see you smiling after a dental visit, they are likely to do the same!
Top tips for baby teeth
Baby teeth function as “placeholders” for your child’s permanent teeth, and if a baby tooth is lost too early it can cause permanent teeth to grow into the empty space, making it difficult for other teeth to find room. This could lead to a variety of future dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease and abnormal wear of tooth surfaces to name a few.
Did you know that baby teeth are just as susceptible to cavities as adult teeth? Start brushing your child’s teeth twice a day as soon as they emerge using a very thin film of high fluoride toothpaste (no less than 1,000 ppm / parts per million). Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by protecting the tooth against bacteria and sugars in the mouth. Although important that your child spits out the toothpaste, it is not necessary for them to rinse with water so that the excess fluoride can continue to protect their teeth.
Should my child be seeing an orthodontist?
Depending on the needs of your child, the age at which treatment may be undertaken can vary. Orthodontic treatment is generally carried out once all the adult teeth have emerged, however in certain cases early intervention can minimise or even avoid future orthodontic treatment. As a rule, around the age of 8 is an appropriate time for your child to be assessed by our specialist orthodontist who works closely with all our dentists.
Keep it going!
At The Dental Surgery we believe the key to lifelong good oral health starts with proper education, at an early age, on how to look after your own teeth and recognise any signs of declining oral health. During your child’s first and subsequent check-ups, our team of dentists, hygienists and specialists will spend time showing them proper brushing and flossing techniques, providing dietary advice (such as being aware of their sugar intake) and preventative treatment where necessary (such as fissure sealants, topical fluoride applications and oral hygiene vists). We aim to make their appointments positive and something to look forward to.
How To Get The Best Dental Care in Commercial street London
Here's what some of our wonderful dental patients had to say about their treatment with us:
consistently delighted with the service I’ve received and the dental work I’ve had done at the Dental Surgery, both general and cosmetic, and no longer feel the need to hide my smile!
I was recommended to come here after years of just seeing the local dentist and never being especially happy but not knowing any better and returning there. Coming to this practice is guaranteed to change anyone's opinion about scary dental appointments! Starting with a relaxed moment in the lovely new reception through to leaving it is a calm and professional service. I have had some dental and hygiene treatment here and have been at ease every time as everything is well explained so the patient really understands what is going on, most importantly I couldn't be happier with the treatment I received here
I've been going to the Dental Surgery for around 4 years now and I have to say the service here is phenomenal. The practice has seen me through numerous bouts of wisdom teeth infections over the past few months and even though this is a private surgery they only have their customers best interest at heart rather then charging unnecessary amounts of money for procedures or medication I don't need. Always able to get in on the same day of calling, always get a friendly and efficient service and the best advice. Thanks so much for going the extra mile.
Fantastic first visit to the dentist for the 4year old in my care. She was so nervous and the dental hygienist Lottie put her at ease straight away. Lottie was very friendly and professional, it was an exceptional experience. Recommend her very highly and this practice.
I had brilliant experience at The Dental Surgery. My hygienist Lottie was extremely professional, friendly and very knowledgable. Lottie has helped me to maintain healthy teeth with a busy lifestyle. The best service I have received from any dentistry in London! The receptionists were also very friendly & helpful. Looking forward to my next visit!
