Our general dentists and hygienists advise children and adults on how best to care for their teeth and gums to prevent dental problems, as well as fixing current ones. Cosmetic dentistry focuses on smile aesthetics with bespoke veneers, white fillings and crowns and teeth whitening to provide that extra sparkle. Our Smile Makeover in a Day is ideal for those short of time and seeking the perfect smile.

Invisible Braces

Our specialist periodontists treat patients with gingivitis (inflamed or bleeding gums) or periodontal disease (which affects the gums and underlying bone). Dental implants are the ideal solution after dental trauma and a permanent alternative to dentures, allowing patients to eat and smile with confidence.

How to get the perfect smile and feel more confident

Cosmetic Dentistry began in the 1930’s when a Californian Dentist improved the smiles of the Hollywood stars. Over the decades techniques have improved and developed in cosmetic dentistry. Porcelain veneers, thin layers of porcelain, are bonded to the surface of broken, misshapen and discloured teeth to create beautiful smiles. The porcelain available now can mimic the beauty of natural enamel allowing full control of the colour of the final result. The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry was set up in 2003 to provide guidance and education to dentists interested in providing cosmetic dentistry and to provide patients a useful resource to gain information on what is possible in cosmetic dentistry. Dr Dentist is the Past President of the Academy. He has been at the forefront of Cosmetic Dentistry for many years, lecturing throughout the world specifically on the use of computers in creating restorations such as crowns and veneers. Dr Caplan is now able to produce a smile makeover in a day. This is very unusual, as most dentists would require the help of a Dental Technician to produce porcelain veneers. Dr Dentist uses a system called dentistry that uses computer aided design and manufacture (CadCam) to create porcelain dental restorations. The process involves scanning the mouth with a highly accurate specialized camera that creates a virtual 3-D image of the scanned mouth on a computer. The teeth to have veneers or crowns are chosen on the screen and various design tools are used to create a virtual porcelain restoration. This is then used to mill a porcelain block shaded to match the patient’s teeth to create porcelain restorations within a few minutes. These porcelain restorations are then characterized and glazed in a porcelain oven, similar to glazing pottery, producing a beautiful life-like porcelain restoration. These are then immediately bonded to the existing teeth. Within a few hours a patient can have their smile transformed. The Cerec system can be used to treat Damaged teeth Severely discoloured teeth Worn teeth Spaces between teeth Crowded teeth Denture stabilisation is a rather clever treatment which saves denture users from the embarrassment and inconvenience of slipping dentures. Following an initial consultation, you’ll undergo a procedure whereby four small screws (overdenture implants) are inserted into your jaw. The procedure takes only an hour, can be performed under local anaesthetic, and will leave your dentures as stable and firm as natural teeth. Problem All teeth missing Loose, uncomfortable or poorly fitting conventional complete denture Solutions Implant supported fixed or removable complete arch bridge Two principal options: permanently fixed and clip-retained Both options support the bridge, so that it is not resting on the gums Acrylic bridge supported by implants Looks and functions just like natural teeth Combines the security of permanent fixing with the connivence of removable dentures Solid foundation for natural chewing function, but easily removable for cleaning Bridge made from the same material as a conventional denture Implant-supported permanently fixed porcelain bridge Looks and functions like natural teeth Only removable by a dentist, for cleaning or extraction of trapped oral debris The most expensive option for patients with no teeth Removable (clip-retained) denture Looks like natural teeth and can be removed for cleaning Some movement during normal chewing, due to necessary slack in securing clips Alternatives Continue with a complete conventional denture Initially, cheaper than an implant-supported restoration Continuing impairment of eating, speech, confidence Bone supporting the gum beneath the denture will shrink due to lack of use Denture will need to be regularly relined or replaced The pressure form an unsupported conventional denture during chewing reduces the blood supply to the gums and contributes to accelerated bone shrinkage through resorption Dental Practice

Cosmetic dentistry to give you the beautiful smile that you want

The care we provide is patient-centred If you feel nervous about visiting the dentist or hygienist you are not alone.  Often this is due to negative past dental experiences, a fear of pain or the unknown, or even embarrassment about your teeth and mouth. At The Dental Surgery each patient is treated with unconditional positive regard.  We do not judge our patients or make assumptions about them; instead we listen to any concerns and fears you may have and provide genuine care that involves treating you as a person, not just a mouth. A holistic approach Taking the time to actively listen to our patients helps us to understand their expectations and how they wish to be treated, and allows us to help them achieve their optimum oral health.  Our dentists, hygienist and specialists all work alongside one another and personally take patients from one surgery to the next when appointments are linked so that we can relay any important information and ensure you experience a continuous and consistent level of care. Transparency in treatment We endeavour to put you in control of your treatment at all times by explaining what we discover with easy to understand terminology and showing you your intra-oral pictures and X-rays to highlight any aspects of concern.  Before treatment is undertaken you will be provided with all the available options and a treatment plan outlining costs and steps to be taken Pain management With your permission, there are various methods and techniques we can use to alleviate dental anxiety and pain.  Dependent on your tolerance and sensitivity we can use numbing agents (topical for tenderness) or sedatives (by injection for nerve sensitivity) during treatment at no additional cost. Catch up on TV shows or listen to your favourite music during treatment, while always being able to alert the dentist or hygienist if you are experiencing discomfort in which case they will stop immediately. At The Dental Surgery, we are all dedicated to changing your dental experience for the better. Dental Clinic
