Cosmetic dentistry focuses on smile aesthetics with bespoke veneers, white fillings and crowns and teeth whitening to provide that extra sparkle. Our Smile Makeover in a Day is ideal for those short of time and seeking the perfect smile.

Dental Care

Our specialist periodontists treat patients with gingivitis (inflamed or bleeding gums) or periodontal disease (which affects the gums and underlying bone). Dental implants are the ideal solution after dental trauma and a permanent alternative to dentures, allowing patients to eat and smile with confidence.

Why you don't have to be afraid of going to the dentist anymore

The care we provide is patient-centred If you feel nervous about visiting the dentist or hygienist you are not alone.  Often this is due to negative past dental experiences, a fear of pain or the unknown, or even embarrassment about your teeth and mouth. At The Dental Surgery each patient is treated with unconditional positive regard.  We do not judge our patients or make assumptions about them; instead we listen to any concerns and fears you may have and provide genuine care that involves treating you as a person, not just a mouth. A holistic approach Taking the time to actively listen to our patients helps us to understand their expectations and how they wish to be treated, and allows us to help them achieve their optimum oral health.  Our dentists, hygienist and specialists all work alongside one another and personally take patients from one surgery to the next when appointments are linked so that we can relay any important information and ensure you experience a continuous and consistent level of care. Transparency in treatment We endeavour to put you in control of your treatment at all times by explaining what we discover with easy to understand terminology and showing you your intra-oral pictures and X-rays to highlight any aspects of concern.  Before treatment is undertaken you will be provided with all the available options and a treatment plan outlining costs and steps to be taken Pain management With your permission, there are various methods and techniques we can use to alleviate dental anxiety and pain.  Dependent on your tolerance and sensitivity we can use numbing agents (topical for tenderness) or sedatives (by injection for nerve sensitivity) during treatment at no additional cost. Catch up on TV shows or listen to your favourite music during treatment, while always being able to alert the dentist or hygienist if you are experiencing discomfort in which case they will stop immediately. At The Dental Surgery, we are all dedicated to changing your dental experience for the better. Dental Care

Grinding Teeth in your sleep The Dentist can help

When should my child start visiting a dentist?   Following the guidance of the British Dental Society dental check-up before their first birthday.  We are also on hand for dietary advice (especially on the intake of sugars) and proper oral care recommendations. The journey to a life of healthy teeth and gums starts even before your child requires dental care.  The relationship between your child and their dentist is just as important as their level of skill and expertise.  Discuss your own dental visits with your child to dispel the myths and stereotypical “fears” associated with dentistry.  If they see you smiling after a dental visit, they are likely to do the same! Top tips for baby teeth   Baby teeth function as “placeholders” for your child’s permanent teeth, and if a baby tooth is lost too early it can cause permanent teeth to grow into the empty space, making it difficult for other teeth to find room.  This could lead to a variety of future dental issues such as tooth decay, gum disease and abnormal wear of tooth surfaces to name a few. Did you know that baby teeth are just as susceptible to cavities as adult teeth? Start brushing your child’s teeth twice a day as soon as they emerge using a very thin film of high fluoride toothpaste (no less than 1,000 ppm / parts per million).  Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by protecting the tooth against bacteria and sugars in the mouth. Although important that your child spits out the toothpaste, it is not necessary for them to rinse with water so that the excess fluoride can continue to protect their teeth. Should my child be seeing an orthodontist?   Depending on the needs of your child, the age at which treatment may be undertaken can vary.  Orthodontic treatment is generally carried out once all the adult teeth have emerged, however in certain cases early intervention can minimise or even avoid future orthodontic treatment.  As a rule, around the age of 8 is an appropriate time for your child to be assessed by our specialist orthodontist who works closely with all our dentists. Keep it going!   At The Dental Surgery we believe the key to lifelong good oral health starts with proper education, at an early age, on how to look after your own teeth and recognise any signs of declining oral health.  During your child’s first and subsequent check-ups, our team of dentists, hygienists and specialists will spend time showing them proper brushing and flossing techniques, providing dietary advice (such as being aware of their sugar intake) and preventative treatment where necessary (such as fissure sealants, topical fluoride applications and oral hygiene vists).  We aim to make their appointments positive and something to look forward to.
